Purple Rain 97 is a diverse group of young ladies who truly embody the spirit of soccer and are fulfilling the vision of the Purple Rain Soccer Club. Together this group, representing many different schools, are learning the exciting game of soccer along with the self discipline and critical thinking skills that are necessary to perform at your personal best.
This team loves the game of soccer and the joy of competing, but also embraces the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. They strive to be positive roll models and ambassadors for soccer throughout our community and the world.
The team has been working on some community service projects, such as soccer mini camps and other soccer related programs, here in Memphis that are in conjunction with the Memphis Leadership Foundation and the Refugee Empowerment Program (REP). They work together with the REP children who have been displaced from their home countries and are learning a lot from them as well as helping to share with them the benefit of teamwork, leadership and trust which can all be gained through a positive team experience.
They were also chosen as finalists in a national competition promoting the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOMZXx3eiP4 to see their fun and creative entry.
Whether the team is putting on a fundraising dance, working with the children of REP, doing the South African “diski dance” or competing in a soccer game (like the Collierville Invitational Tournament where they were the Champions in the Fall of 2008), this group of girls have a lot of fun together!
